grey skies are gonna clear up

I love a good rainy day once in a while. the temperature is nice, everything is quieter, and I get to use a prop in my photo shoots.

it seems I'm sticking with the 70s theme this week. and lucky for me, there's a classic VW camper van parked in front of our building; the perfect backdrop to a boho-traveller type outfit.

after seeing these pictures I changed into a wider belt, which made the waist more defined and the whole dress a little less "billowy sack." but, billowy sack or no, I love this dress; it's comfortable and makes me feel like I'm in a touring folk-rock band. which again, fits with the 70s theme.

now if you'll excuse me, I clearly have to take up learning the banjo...

under my umbrella

tomorrow marks day one of my family vacation. I decided to bid farewell to Aberdeen in the appropriate way; with an umbrella and smile of relief.

Brando and I spent a rainy saturday doing a few last-minute errands and succumbing to junk food (I've been craving hot wings for like a week- no idea why. it's not a very common craving of mine). I'm beyond excited to be seeing the Red Hot Chili Peppers tomorrow (!!), and to meet my family in London.

while I'm away I'll have the occasion to post once or twice, and I'm also delighted to say a few lovely ladies (and one thoughtful husband) have agreed to guest post here. I'm sure they'll do a wonderful job of keeping your interest, probably better than I could!

if in between, however, you find yourself for want of ways to fill the time previously occupied by my silly little blog, I have a few suggestions for you...

#1. watch Deadwood. reasons this is a good idea for you are threefold; one, Timothy Olyphant is positively beautiful. even in silly slicked back hair and a wicked moustache. and it takes one handsome son of a gun to pull off that look.

two, it will make you feel much better about any vices you may have or be trying to overcome, particularly cursing. because compared to most of these folks I'm sure you behave like a saint.

and three, it's just. so. good. I mean, it's all about rugged cowboys and their prostitute friends trying to make a living mining for gold in the wild west. it's an all-round feel-good family show.
(except it's not at all. please don't allow your or anyone's children to watch this program.)

#2. dance around your living room to music not regularly associated with dancing, and do it in a fashion that you would be embarrassed to in public, or even in front of a mirror. some song suggestions are "Rock You Like a Hurricane" by Scorpions, "Peace of Mind" by Boston, and "Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel. trust me, it's more fun when the music does not lend itself to actual dancing. because let's face it, you probably don't have the moves like Jagger.

#3. listen to the Chili Peppers. because that's what I'll be doing. particularly tomorrow. :)
more specifically, you could watch these:

peace out, bloggerinos!
I'll just be off now, having the time of my life.
no big deal.

you, me, and the weather

I'm going to attempt to go a couple blog posts without complaining about the weather. this pledge, however, will not be starting today. because the weather. is. terrible.

I've been waiting for a relatively nice day to wander out of my neighbourhood and do a sensible photo shoot in this outfit, but it's clear that Scotland has other plans. so I grew tired of waiting for the rain/wind/drizzle to stop and went to get photos anyway.

ya hear that, Scotland? you can't keep a blogger down.

and yes, it is raining slightly in these pictures. but fortunately, it was not cold or windy. so I count my blessings.

a while ago Sugarlips Apparel contacted me with an invite to their blogger affiliate program and an offer for an item to review/wear in a post. first off, I was extremely flattered and excited. free stuff! association with other cool bloggers! yay! then I checked out the site and the company, and I was even more pleased. not only do they offer cute clothes, they also seem to be considerably environmentally friendly. according to the Sugarlips website;

"Designed for ultimate comfort, sustainability, and wearability - Sugarlips Apparel seamless garments are some of the most sought after sustainable fabric blends on the planet, while leaving an eco-friendly footprint that doesn't tax the environment. Sugarlips Apparel is so soft and comfortable you may not want to take it off."

and I can definitely vouch for the last part!

this dress is the item I received, and I absolutely love it. to be honest, at first I wasn't overly excited about it; it's fairly simple and seemed an awkward length. but as soon as I saw the dress in person and put it on, I was smitten. it's so soft and comfy, and the details are so pretty! I've already worn it twice, and it received several compliments.

it's a very versatile wardrobe piece. today I wore it belted & layered, and with one of my new favourite necklaces; with the lace bib and the little bow-tie, I thought the look was reminiscent of a girly tuxedo!

for this drizzly day of picture-taking hubs and I paid a visit to our nearby park. it's been a while since we wandered there among the flowers and frolicking pups. not so many people there today because of the aforementioned rain, but that makes it less embarrassing when one might, say, fall flat on one's back while attempting a few spinning photos...

not that anyone did that today, or anything.

I can't believe June is halfway through. my, time does fly when you're... doing nothing at all.

the big plans for tonight include frozen pizzas and a yoga dvd. the two may not appear to go together, but hey, I lead an eclectic life. I might throw in the second season of Deadwood if I'm feeling saucy.
it is quite a saucy show, actually.
jump back, people, I'm a wild one. :)

hope you're all enjoying your weekends, and that they've been a little sunnier than mine!
s'all for today.
love love.

rain rain, go away

today I had plans to go on a photo adventure with Brando, but Aberdeen had other plans. it was cold and raining all afternoon. and I mean cold. what month is it, again?

we gave up on our adventuring ideas and stayed home to watch Deadwood instead. grabbed a couple pictures of my outfit, as intended, but I apologize for the lack of creativity and proper lighting.

as much as my spirits have been dampened by the absence of summer, they were picked up ever-so-slightly by my unicorn t-shirt. I swear this picture came directly from my 1993 bedroom wall. I had so many posters of flying unicorns. flying unicorns standing on a rainbow, flying unicorns in space, baby flying unicorns. I thought they were so beautiful.

I was such a little nerd.

I actually find it really hard to style this t-shirt (I can't really pull off the casual-chic look... I really can't) but I like it anyway because it's so darn nostalgic. and wonderfully nerdy.

here's hoping for better weather over the weekend! and if not, here's hoping I don't run out of Deadwood episodes too soon.

man, that show is intense.

happy weekend, everybody!
