ramblings of a madwoman

so it has been another long, cramazing week up in here. (for those of you who don't recall all my brilliant ideas, cramazing is the word I made up to communicate both "crazy busy" and "amazing" when describing a period of time. webster's is interested.)

our handsome and awesome tier-1 friends stayed with us on their first trip to NYC! because they are pretty much the coolest guys I know, we were busy doing tons of hip & fun things that cost very little monies. so you will excuse my absence in the blogosphere, since I was being pretty exceptional at real life for a change.

but, now that's all over. they are gone, and I am here, taking outfit pictures in front of graffiti, wearing heels that hurt my feet after 10 minutes. talk about coming down off a high!

as I try to repress the image of my crazy-eyes, I wonder at what it is that makes an outfit a favourite. for me, a huge aspect is definitely fit; I like clothes that are comfortable, flattering, and that I'm not constantly pulling or tugging at to keep in place. I also really like rich colours, and accessories that coordinate but don't necessarily "match."

but there's always something intangible about a favourite outfit, an unnameable quality that makes you feel like yourself. this outfit is one of those for me.

it's comprised of individual pieces that I love; the skirt is an old favourite that I cannot part with, even though it's one of the only things currently in my closet that is almost worn out. the bag I discovered in the souks of Marrakech, and is probably the most unique accessory I own. the locket was my very first Etsy purchase and is the perfect bronzed colour. the shirt is new, but I love that it combines comfy t-shirt with vintage pretty; the print reminds me of a blue china pattern. and even though these wedges hurt my feet today, I've been walking a crazy amount this week and my feet are basically pulp, so I really can't blame the shoes. they're usually quite comfortable.

skirt- Topshop (old!) // top- H&M // necklace- Bueno Style // shoes- Jeffrey Campbell via Modcloth (sold out) // bag- fr. Marrakesh

I've worn this outfit a few times this summer, and it always makes me feel better about myself. so even though my friends went home yesterday, and my feet hurt, and my netflix was down, the weekend hasn't been all bad!
I know that's a lot of emotions coming from a simple wardrobe choice, but that's my life. I have a lot of random feelings... I once won a drama queen award.
welcome back to the world of Sarah.

the wheel in the sky

it's been a particularly thunder-stormy week here in Brooklyn, so I haven't been up to much. this week has mostly consisted of catching up on my reading, binge-watching Scrubs, and running errands in the rain (I got new pens, woohoo!).

but today the sky cleared enough for a quick jaunt outside and few outfit snaps.

this dress is one of the items I got in the crazy amazing- cramazing?- Modcloth wow factor sale. and I'm so glad I did! I'm a sucker for a cute print, and this one is even better in person; it reminds me of those colour wheels you use in art class or home decorating (or the rainbow wheel of death on a Macbook, but I went with the happy connotations). the colours are vibrant and stunning, and it's the perfect summer silhouette. I've already worn it three times this week...

another thing I've been sporting a lot lately is this hairdo. I mentioned in my 30 Before 30 list that I wanted to master a new go-to hair style, and I've been working on this one. what do you think? I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a little inspired by Queen Elsa, but I'm very aware that my hair will never be even close to that luscious and well-behanved mane.
anyway, I like it, but I'm not entirely sure it won't give me trouble with my rapidly thinning hair and tendency to not use a hairbrush.

these shoes are from Modcloth too, and they are so awesome! I wore them right out of the box and didn't even have to break them in. comfy right from the start. they also seem very high quality and like they will withstand more than my average $10 flats; I've worn them in the rain a couple times now, and they don't rub my feet or start to look flimsy and dirty. a pretty solid purchase, and I think one that gets me on my way to accomplishing another list item; #20. build a practical shoe collection.

see, I'll have that list done in no time. ;)

summer days are gone too soon

heidi-ho bloggerinos.
I'm not entirely sure how to spell "heidi-ho" but that version seems phonetically accurate.

in case it hasn't come across so far on this blog, Aberdeen isn't exactly known for it's gorgeous summers. whenever a little sunshine seeps through the clouds I try and take full advantage. mind you it's still never that warm so full advantage just means taking a walk until it starts to rain again.

seriously, it rains every day. I'm thinking about moving to a desert when Brandon's done school.

this particular walk was after my interview with Topshop. this is what I wore to said interview. and fyi it was raining before we got back to our apartment.

blazer + shoes- topshop // dress- vintage fr. jumbelaya on etsy // tights- h&m

for the record, these are probably the cutest shoes I own. I want to wear them with everything. except that it turns out they are a beyotch to wear. I was so excited when I tried them on in the store and they were "sooo comfy..."
oh well. it's not like I get to wear heels that often anymore. such a waste of 75% of my shoe collection, sitting lonely in my dark, still unorganized closet...

maybe that's why they hurt so much. I'm out of practice.
yes, yes I'll go with that.
(also it totally bugs me that the t-strap was crooked the whole time, arg.)

99 problems...

a while back, I mentioned at the end of a post that one thing I was going to miss about living in Canada was shopping at modcloth.

I have a second thing I'm going to miss.
THE FOOD.

I love the UK, but the food here SUCKS. and there's so much you just can't get here; bold bbq doritos (*wails dramatically*), kraft dinner, processed (read: non-disgusting) peanut butter... they don't even have junior chickens at mcdonald's!

but the weird part is how hard it is to cook north american recipes. I went to the grocery store today and had to cut my list in half because of the amount of things they just don't use here. examples? chocolate chips, jalapenos, decent bbq sauce, pancake mix, cranberries, chipotles... it keeps going but those are the weirdest. I'm sure the list will continue to grow as I continue to cook.

anyway I just wanted to share that little rant with you.

and now on a totally unrelated note, here is what I wore!

lace bodysuit, pink bodysuit + socks- american apparel // skirt- h&m // shoes- ebay

back to pastels again. and lace! I love this lace bodysuit so much, I've practically worn holes in it already. and I never do that with clothes. I wore it a lot when I worked at AA.

I kind of built this outfit around the shoes, though. I've been wanting a pair of plain yellow pumps forever, and I was having no luck. I randomly found these on ebay for 5gbp (about $9) and I instantly knew I wanted to pair them with my pink socks.

the shoes are pretty comfortable, which is great for $9. but they're too darn big! every pair of shoes I own is too big for me! I don't know if my feet shrunk or my shoes stretched or what, but it's impossible to wear heels without ankle straps to hold them on. I don't get it. it's the smallest sizes you can possibly get- 6 US, 3UK- and they fall off my feet.

oh what's a girl to do?

in your head

these are another pair of shoes that I have no idea why I keep.
other than, of course, that they're freaking adorable and seem to go with absolutely everything.

but seriously, they KILL my feet! I mean I am not the best at walking in heels, I am the first to admit it, but these are wedges for cryin' out loud. I should be able to make a quick trip to the grocery store without feeling my ankles crumble inside of me.

I almost got rid of them. almost. I had them left at my parents house all autumn & winter, waiting for the next garage sale. but I kept putting together all these cute little outfits and all I could think was, "what would really make this a killer outfit is those white wedges."

dangittttt.

I feel like women continuously put on high heels for the same reasons they are capable of giving birth more than once; their psyche instinctively forgets the pain.

dress- topshop // jacket- primark // tights- we love colors // belt- american apparel // shoes- dolls, via solestruck

this is actually an outfit from a few days ago, but I never got the chance to post it. ever since I got this cute floral jacket I had been picturing it with this dress (I didn't even own the dress at the time). I love the combination of the flowers and polka dots and how the tights pick up on the colours in the jacket. although I do think it looked a little better in my head...

then again, in my head holding on to these shoes is completely justified.

one of those days

sometimes I feel like I'm having a harder time adjusting to life in Scotland than I expected...

yesterday, for instance, I was a bit of a gloomy gus. I feel like lately I've been having a lot of those days where nothing seems to work out like you wanted. Brandon says I'm a drama queen.

anyway I didn't particularly like my outfit for a multitude of reasons. I got this new skirt at Topshop on sale, and it was one of those things that you try on and makes you feel just awesome in the dressing room; not so much when you're home, moving around it in. the short lining kept riding up really high (like, indecent exposure high).

and am I the only girl in the world who HATES when her thighs rub together while walking? how do you people deal with not wearing tights??

also, I think I may have to get rid of these shoes. I looove them, but they are so not comfortable. my feet started to hurt after like 5 minutes of wearing them. it's strange because I usually find seychelles very easy to walk in. and is it just me, or does it look weird that the peep toes...don't show my toes?

blouse- vintage fr. Etsy // skirt- Topshop // socks- we love colors // earrings- vintage // booties- Seychelles fr. modcloth

ever go through a weird time of change and feel like you hate everything you own? right now that's me. especially with shoes. whadya think, are these keepers? how often do you have to wear a pair of heels before they're slightly comfortable?

heels and I have such a love/hate relationship.

well, after all that complaining, I do love the colours in this outfit. I think the perfect name for it is "granny smith." because let's be honest, I'm kinda digging the old lady look here. also I'm wearing green. hehe.

enough rambling! hopefully tomorrow's outfit treats me better. :)
love love.
