electric avenue

folks, the wait is over. you finally get to see my new haircut.
CALM DOWN.
this is a big day for all of us.

I quite like it, myself. my long hair was so dull and damaged that I really needed a change. it's not like I went wild or anything- I mean, bangs, oooh, so original!- but my hair feels a lot fuller and a lot nicer and now I don't have to waste makeup on my forehead. win-win!

this outfit feels very electric to me. not just because of the obvious electric blue, either. it's the silver-capped heels and clashing accessory colours and the crazy abstract cats. it feels kind of 80s, and I love it. this might be the only outfit I have that is almost "go to the club" appropriate. is it? I have no idea, I don't go to the club.
can you tell?
but it's a very fun outfit to wear other places, too. I wore it to the grocery store, and to eat pizza. that's like my version of going to a club.

I think this might be my last day without a jacket for a while. since it's much colder at home this time of year, I've been basking in this strange, new, warm-ish type autumn. but now the temperatures are pretty consistently cool and there's a general nip in the air, so I think it's time to give up bare arms and embrace the true season. I even have a pumpkin-coloured purse to mark the occasion!

it's good timing anyhow, with tomorrow being Canadian Thanksgiving. I guess technically today is Thanksgiving too, but tomorrow we're having turkey dinner. it's my first seasonal occasion. and you know how it is once I start with the autumn holidays; obviously that means it's time to get excited for a certain Mass of the Christ variety...

yes, I'm going to be that person. you should know me by now.

but, right now it's all about Thanksgiving. yay autumn!

we sit on front porches + swing life away

real weekends still fly by far too quickly. all the way from junior high to lame jobs, monday always seems to arrive too soon. it's a fact of life.

I had a lovely weekend of both relaxation and productivity. and I only have to wait till tuesday to get another mini-weekend of my own. so I guess I can't complain.

I've been going kind of crazy with the accessorizing lately, but today I toned it down a notch. just some cozy socks and violet lips. this dress seemed to speak for itself.
and also I just couldn't be bothered with accessorizing. it is the day of rest, after all!

speaking of rest, I need to get some. so I'll keep this short (and hopefully sweet?) and leave you with that.

hope your weekend was worth the wait, & your monday is pleasantly tolerable.
♥!

summertime blues

I am absolutely pining for summer. Aberdeen has yet to display any semblance of the season; pleasant warmth and sunshine are still very rare. I'm from Newfoundland, so I guess I shouldn't complain- we aren't exactly known for our lovely weather- but I feel like summer.

I want too-hot afternoons and lazy sunbathing and days spent in the park and popsicles and freckles on my shoulders and swimming just to cool off.

I want to go somewhere devastatingly warm.

dress- forever 21 // blazer- zara // belt- suzy shier // tights- american apparel // wedges- fr. twisted sisters // necklace- bridal shower gift

it may look warm and sunny in these pictures, but it was mostly windy and cool. oh camera, how you lie.

this is what I wore to my first job interview in Aberdeen! exciting. it's no big deal, just a retail job, but I need funds asap... so I reeeeeally hope I get it. cross your fingers, please!

I went slightly more...neon than I've been going for lately. right now I'm all about airy pastels (again, must be an innate longing for summer heat) but I couldn't resist going a little 80s with this amazing hot pink blazer! I like how electric-popsicle it looks with the blue dress. which, by the way, is made from the weakest material ever. I've already had the seams re-stitched because the fabric was tearing away from the thread and now, after just one more wear, it's happening again. forever 21, you hand out some gems, but this is not one of them.

on the other hand, these may be my new favourite shoes ever. they proved their awesomeness when the buses in the city centre were cancelled after my interview (shouldn't they tell you that in advance? especially when you're buying a day pass?). I made the 45 minute walk home with little more than a mild ache in my feet. moral of the story is, wedges are my friends, buses are not.

what a feelin'

my favourite thing from the 80s is the film. I'm sorry, but the decade didn't have much else that interests me. maybe a little glam rock here and there, some Bon Jovi in particular, but mostly the movies rule; from John Hughes, to Tom Cruise before the crazy.

my favourite has to be Dirty Dancing. in the tenth grade I watched it every day after school. I loved the dancing, the romance, the music, the whole cheesy thing. after Dirty Dancing I always wanted to fall in love at summer camp and learn ballroom... I can still do one of those!

skirt- American Apparel
top- Modcloth
belt- Chinese Laundry
tights- we love colors
shoes- Aldo

this is two decades in a row for these tights; not too shabby hehe. I dunno, I'm having trouble finding specific pairs lately, so I just went with the first matching bright colour!

I've said before that I'm not a fan of 80s fashion; I don't understand how women went from swinging dresses and sweater sets to neon spandex. but when I saw this skirt at the store I thought, maybe there are aspects that are cool in small doses... like pink denim skirts. and side ponies. and oversized sweatshirts.

when I first got this shirt I couldn't wait to wear it with an abundance of pink shades. I saw Jessica's version on What I Wore and I just loved the combination. it's really the cutest top, it's too bad I couldn't get photos outside in better light.

I guess this means there's one day left of my dressing for the decades idea! it took a tad longer than expected... but it was fun on the days I could do it! having something specific to dress for makes choosing outfits so much easier.

and now I'm going to go watch Cloverfield on tv, because it's been distracting me this whole time! seems interesting. and it's ok to stay up late tonight because of that extra hour of sleep. :)
