you don't know me

yesterday I had a real, grown-up job interview. like, for a real, grown-up career.

it was quite stressful, being my first interview of actual significance. I'm not even sure how it went! I wish interviews were more about getting a feel for your personality, like what tv shows you watch and what your hobbies are and how much you love cheeseburgers. it takes a while to know how awesome I am, you can't get it in 20 minutes talking about how I've never been to Vancouver.

this is what I decided, after much trial and error, to wear to my interview. I didn't even realize till now that it's all from h&m, in different seasons!I had three other outfits picked out before this, but none of them quite worked once I got them on. I hate when that happens. so this look was kind of thrown together, but I mean, how can you go wrong with a turquoise cardigan and purple lipstick?

you can't, I tell you.

I am aglow with thoughts of you

once in a while I am really happy to see a certain trend come "in style." this happened before with lace, midi skirts, and high-waisted pants. right now, it's uneven hems.

particularly skirts that are longer in the back. for a girl with quite a lot of booty, it's nice to feel like you are safely contained at all times (even while twirling and prancing around a park at sunset...). I love that it makes a skirt flowy and long, without feeling too old fashioned or amish.
(not that there's anything wrong with looking amish, it's just not a look I normally go for.)

I got this new dress from work after winning a gift card. I had a hard time choosing what to buy; it came down to a sheer polka dot button-down, a practical grey hoody, or this dress. it was just too special to pass up! besides, it's an outfit in itself. more for your money!

I really like how it moves when I walk, that I can dress it up or down, and that I can just throw it on with any colour tights or cardigan and it will still look cute. earlier in the day when I wore this dress to work I had on bright aqua-blue tights and a black cardi. I love when patterns work with a lot of different colours!

Brando and I got to play with the lighting more in these pictures. usually we just have a grey sky to contend with. it was a challenge at first, but we got the opportunity to practice! and I love how the light shines through the sheer fabric of the dress. 

on our little wander we also made a new kitty friend! why is it all kitties I meet outside are snuggly and loveable, then when I foster a rescue he turns out to be the spawn of satan? 

maybe I need a black and white kitty. that seems to be the trait that makes the difference.

purple rain

I am digging purple lately. not exactly a fall colour, but I feel it brightens up the grey I'm surrounded by. I like the contrast.

this new dress from work pretty much encompasses my favourite outfit features right now. easy-breezy dress, classic shape, black + jewel tones. I like looking like a cupcake princess.

remember those? the little dolls with the cupcake hats, and you could flip their dress up and turn them into a cupcake. they were stylish chicas.

(also just realizing now that of you don't know what I'm talking about they sound kind of creepy.)

we had a rare moment of sunshine here today, so I took advantage, and also some pictures... something about sunshine makes me want to be productive. there are days when I'm tired and lazy and I prefer rainy grey afternoons spent curled up on the couch, but once it a while a boost of vitamin d really gets me motivated.

today, for instance, I actually cleaned the apartment (whilst air-guitaring to Boston; multi-tasking!), did laundry, had TWO skype dates, and got all caught up on Walking Dead.

...okay, that last one may not seem productive to some of you, but it was really fun! that show is amazing.

I also pre-emptively bought chocolate chip cookies, cause I knew I'd be wanting them later. I was right.

living for the weekend

HEY.

I'm still here. no worries.

does anyone remember The Weekenders? the cartoon on abc's One Saturday Morning? its theme song is in my title and I sing it every friday since I was a kid. cartoons are funny that way.

it's been a bit of a crazy week around here (not so much in a good way) so I guess I've been MIA for a while. some days are just too heavy to make computer-ing a priority, right? but I figured I'd get the ball rollin' on my posting again. bad weeks happen, but thank goodness they end! and even better on a high note.

the thing about me having a tough week is I kinda shut down and don't do anything. I get to this place where only laziness will make me feel better. laziness coupled with a tub of ben & jerry's cookie dough ice cream and a lot of CSI episodes. 

basically my life hasn't been very interesting. but I'm content. content, hopped up on sugar, and having far too many dreams about Gil Grissom than can be considered normal...

falling leaves on the ground

the same sweater two outfits in a row... perhaps I'm getting the autumn lazies!

... I don't even think that's a thing. but it sure is easier to convince myself to stay curled up on the couch all day with a cup of green tea, when it's chilly and raining outside. so I guess that's the autumn lazies.

either way, seems every time I dress in a pretty outfit the weather disapproves and makes pictures pretty much impossible. but you haven't seen this dress yet- despite my wearing it around twice a week- so it works out fine. and I can't complain about the weather;  I had a fun-filled weekend.

six is my favourite number. that is why I decided to get a picture with it. I'm not sure why, but when I was little I always felt like doing things in multiples of two or three were lucky for me. so clearly six had to be the ultimate lucky number. then it eventually became my high school volleyball number, and voila- favourite number was born. 

I named her June.

little known fact: Canadian Thanksgiving actually predates the American holiday. yes indeed. even though Canada technically wasn't a country... but it was a colony, and traditionally the day was celebrated by first nations peoples at harvest time. so no, my friendly southern neighbours, we did not steal it from you! 

and frankly, I'm quite happy to have an excuse to eat a giant turkey dinner three months in a row, so why not celebrate both?

blowin' in the wind

it was a particularly blustery day here in Aberdeen. I couldn't hold my skirt down long enough to get a sensible photo! Marilyn Monroe didn't need a subway grate, she should have just come to Scotland.

...not that Newfoundland is any better. wind-wise. it's better in other ways.

this is another New Look outfit. there are actually a lot of things coming in for a/w11 that I really love! I'm on kind of a sweater/cardigan kick with a midi-skirt obsession. this outfit is proof. it seemed really matchy-matchy and plain at first, but I kind of really like it. coordination is appealing now and then, and I love the different textures. 

I guess autumn is officially here, but there hasn't been much of a change in weather. no colourful leaves just yet either. then again I'm never in the company of many trees... Aberdeen is the granite city, and I live in the centre! 

I love fall, but I can't help but wish for the next season... read; Christmas. is it loony that I'm excited for Christmas already? yeah, probably. but in case anyone is wondering, it's only 82 days away!!

...yeah, I went there.
