where I am going, where I was born

I know my blog was uncharacteristically quiet this Canada Day, but don't worry, I haven't gone all American. I was proudly spreading the Canada love elsewhere on the internet and in the real world, I promise.

unfortunately and unbeknownst to us, the only Canadian festivities planned in NYC were either cancelled (boo) or occurred on the weekend before the 1st... so we didn't end up with a whole lot to do on actual Canada Day. Brandon coincidentally had the day off, though, so we took our little two-person celebration to the beach!

dress, bag, + silk scarf- vintage // sandals- gift (handmade in Greece!) // sunglasses- found on the ground in Williamsburg (score!)

when we arrived at Rockaway Beach the sun was shining and there was a strong breeze providing a welcome break from all this "summer in the city" humidity. it was at this moment I realized that I was not wearing a stitch of red. not even my multi-colured underpants, which many people saw due to the very blustery weather. for shame.

BUT. I am wearing green and pink, which are colours of the Newfoundland Republic flag. AND July 1st is also Beaumont-Hamel memorial day in Newfoundland. AND we all know that while I love the crap out of Canada, I love Newfoundland even more.

so in fact, I am dressed very patriotically.
RIGHT?

after our bodies had been sufficiently coated with sand, we went home, changed into some red & white clothing (Brando wore a Canadian tuxedo), and checked out a Canada-themed bar in Williamsburg. lots of people there were wearing red & white, so I assume most of them were Canadians, but other than that there wasn't anything particularly "Canadian" about it. there were pinball machines, however, and cheap Moosehead beer, so we had a pretty good time anyway.

I've been missing my home country a little more than usual. probably because Canada Day is so close to the Fourth, which gets a ridiculous amount of attention, and because this is the first year we've really had no one to celebrate with; even in Scotland there were tons of expat Canucks. there's also the realization that comes once you've been living in the US for a certain amount of time, that while our two countries are so close and so similar in many ways, they're also oddly and fundamentally different. I really like living in New York, but Canada is just so awesome, you guys. I'm so happy to be from there.

so now I will go into Fourth of July weekend with obligatory cheerfulness, and thankfulness that I get to have two great countries as my current "home."

true north

now that the weekend is over, first things first:

WEEEEEEIIIIOOOOOO, CANADA!
got the two most important medals (hockey, obvs!) and did so well in the overall standings. I'm a proud Canadian! and I'd still be if none of those things had happened, but it's more fun this way. :)

I love the Olympics, I'm always sad when they're over. I know it sounds cheesy, but they really do make the world feel more peaceful and together. everyone from all the different countries seems to get along, and they show such sportsmanship and support of one another. there's no trash talk or bitterness at the Olympics. it brings out the best in people.

OLYMPIC ♥!!!!!

february's coming to a close already, and the weather is trying to trick us into thinking spring is near. I know better. if getting married in march in Newfoundland teaches you anything, it's that march is time for snowstorms.

I can't tell if this restlessness I'm feeling is a longing for warm spring weather, or just anxiousness to get moving to New York. everything is taking soooo loooong. but there's nothing to be done when it comes to bureaucracy other than wait it out. I'm just so excited to finally get there, and also to have a place of our own again. I'm tired of rifling through suitcases and digging through boxes just to live daily life. I miss having a space of my own, where I can do whatever I want without question or worry. I love my family and they've been so good to us... but there's nothing better than the feeling of being in a place that is yours.

dress- Suzy Shier // cardigan- H&M(old!) // tights- American Eagle // boots- gift

well, whether spring is coming or not, we've had one or two unusually warm days. and by "warm" I mean that I didn't have to bundle myself into a marshmallow to leave the house.

it seemed like the perfect time to break out a lighter outfit, like this chiffon dress I got for Christmas. I know it has more of an autumnal feel, but I just love the shades and the way the colours fade into one another almost like an ombre. I think it was perfectly matched with my ombre tights! add my trusty gold cardigan and casual boots, and I've got a pretty easy-breezy ensemble.

it's a nice break from winter leggings and puffy jackets, anyways.

chasing waterfalls

time for the second round of Sarah & Caitlin's road trip!

the next major stop on our journey was Toronto, where our brief affair with Ontario got off to a rocky start. we had tickets to TURF(Toronto Urban Roots Festival, since no one seems to know what it is...) and the T-dot transit system did everything it could to prevent us from actually getting there to enjoy it. yet, one wrong train, four subway tokens, a city bus, and a 15 minute cab ride later we were standing in a grassy field enjoying the crooning of one Zooey Deschanel.
we saw She & Him! twelve glorious, full songs (take that you ego-tripping gatekeeper!). we got free whiskey and bought band t-shirts.

and things kept improving from there.

the next day I made my first visit to Niagara Falls! one of the natural wonders of the world, only a few provinces away, and I had never seen it. we arrived on a hot sunny day and met some interesting people. it was a great falls experience!

t-shirt- she & him // skirt- modcloth // belt- american apparel // necklace- lia sophia // sunglasses- rosie the rebel

a friendly gentleman offered to take a photo of Caitlin and I together... and proceeded to quiz us on which falls was better- the Canadian or the American. obviously this was the first giveaway that he was an American (hehe). being Canucks we were very diplomatic about our answers (especially since we didn't really know which side was which) but ultimately we decided the Canadian falls was slightly nicer. to directly quote part of the conversation, "if you went over the American falls in a barrel you would most likely die."
that's really our only legit reason.
yay Canada!

after avoiding an impending invitation for mini golf and eating a couple hot dogs, we moved on. only about 24 hours spent in Ontario all together, but many memorable moments.
onward and southward!

next stop on the road trip is Louisville, and there were many more memorable experiences had there.
stay tuned!

bye bye, Montreal

hello again, friends!
two posts in a row? this is a bit of a roll for me!

Caitlin and I got back from our epic road trip over a month ago, but I'm sure you're all still dying to know more about it...

well, you're in luck! because I have right here a few photos from our too-brief stay in Montreal.
except, well... they're all of me.

hrrrrmmm, yes....

this is the outfit I wore for my first ever day in the beautiful Montreal!

we spent most of the day just walking around and exploring, stopping often to drink coffee and eat snacks. we are very big on the snacks. and the beer. and the snacks... you get the picture.

our visit landed us in the middle of the Jazz Festival, so there were lots of fun sights and sounds to take in!

skirt- modcloth // shirt- smart set // purse- american eagle

this skirt has quickly become one of my favourites. I always get compliments when I wear it, and I love that the colourful pattern makes it go with almost anything. it makes me feel instantly stylish, which is what made it the perfect wardrobe choice for wandering this stylish city!

I want to say that I'll share more Montreal photos soon... but let's face it, Sarah's promises seem made to be broken. so let's just cross our fingers and hope I don't get overly distracted by netflix, or real life, or something ridiculous like that...

peace in the Canadian East!

I'm a 24 year old girl with a passion for a fashion and a flare for accessories. I'm a jewellery designer by day and a blogger by night, from Toronto, Ontario in Canada. I have been designing jewellery for as long as I can rememer! Check out my shop where my items are one of a kind and made from recycled vintage pieces.
I started my blog about two years ago, but this last year really started blogging as part of my business to show my costumers a way to wear the accessories with different outfits.
I like cakes drizzled in liqueurs and collecting vintage tea cups. My favourite era is the 1920's,  (Oh how I've dreamed of being a flapper, it's usally my go to costume on halloween) and I love the idea of magic.
