and it's the weekend!

it's been a pretty slow week here in Sarahland. in fact, maybe the most significant thing I've done is decide that I should never use the term "Sarahland."
so not a lot to report.

but it's the weekend! already. again... gosh, didn't I just rant about this?
check out this week's Friday Favourites while I ponder the possibilities of time travel.

1. sometimes you need a shirt to tell everyone how you really feel about life... //Thug Life.

2. fall is here, and some bloggers are already kicking as at dressing for it. in love with this whole thing. //Keiko Lynn.

3. speaking of dressing for fall... Free People's autumn catalog makes me drool. yes, it came out a month ago, but I've only just discovered it because I try to stay away from stunningly beautiful things that would bankrupt me. //Free People.

4. my guilt about plastic shopping bags is growing on pace with the massive pile of them under my kitchen sink. I really need several of these. //Emily McDowell.

5. know who has canvas shopping bags? adults. know what else adults do? they colour. or at least they should. this grown-up activity book looks like a barrel of laughs! //Amazon.

6. I've said it before, and I'm saying it again; I'm gonna change my hair, guys! I'M GONNA DO IT. //pics via Pinterest.

7. at a recent Sephora excursion I discovered two things; one, Kat Von D. lipstick is amazing. and two, I kind of want black lipstick. bonus: it's called "slayer!" (that's a bonus because my current netflix addiction is Buffy the Vampire Slayer.) //Sephora.

8. guys, this picture is awesome. and perhaps ripe with social commentary? I'm not sure. but it's cute as hell. //via Distractify.

9. it's not really cold yet, but it's never too early to start wanting a new coat! this one feels like what Marie Antoinette would wear in a New York winter. so its good enough for me! //Hell Bunny.

my obsession

hey y'all! it's been a long time since I've shared with you some of my superficial fancies, so I thought I would put together some Friday favourites. how else will you know how I've been wasting time and what I've been ogling on the interweb? it's a service, really.

...yes, I'm aware it is Monday, but I'm always behind. you should be used to it by now!

1. I need some plant life in my home life; this hanging planter is just so pretty. //Barruntando.

2. I've recently discovered this fabulous lady's blog, and with it her equally fabulous Etsy creations. love this clear tote! //Mini Penny Vintage.

3. I'm so excited for all my favourite shows to pick up again- autumn; tis the season of new tv!- not least of all that final season of Parks & Rec. Guardians gave me my fill of Chris Pratt over the summer, but I've missed Andy Dwyer's philosophies on life. like these! //via Buzzfeed.

4. Urban Decay has a new vice palette out, and I kind of need it... all those amazing bright colours! zoinks! //Sephora.

5. I'm obsessed with getting a pair of white boots, preferably of the cowboy variety. these would be ideal for wearing with flowery dresses to transition them into cooler weather. //clockwise fr. top left: Time Bomb Vintage; Time Bomb Vintage (again); Jeffrey Campbell; Sam Edelman.

6. more Buzzfeed love; apparently no show better exemplifies my life than Arthur. and I won't pretend that doesn't make me extremely happy. //Buzzfeed.

7. I'm itchin' to get some new pretty up on my walls, and I'm especially fond of anything that shows love for Brooklyn. //Joe B Map Art.

8. I know this video was released ages ago, but I'm so obsessed. the song alone is amazeballs (be sure to check out the Sara Bareilles cover here!), but the video is even AMAZEBALLIER. yeah, that's right, I'm so pumped I just created a new superlative.

happy little things

another week has flown by here at chez Sarah with nary a whisper on the internets. such is life; I've been busy making friends with Canadian bartenders in Williamsburg and playing Arrested Development bingo (no, that's not something I made up). if recent sad celebrity news has taught me anything it's that it's okay to go out and live life in the real world and not always have to condense it to internet-worthy happy snippets. carpe diem, bitches. play that bingo. find silly things that make you happy.

here are some cute little things that make me happy. :)

1. can someone make this for me?? //House of Miranda.

2. I want to own every pair of Seychelles that exists. they're all so cute and classy, and with manageable heel heights! egads! //Seychelles Footwear.

3. Francesca's statement necklace collection is the bees knees. //Hillsborough Pearl & Poplar Jeweled.

4. I am relentlessly seeking this version of the Roman Holiday poster. its beautiful people and delightful pink hue must adorn my apartment walls. but I can't find it to buy anywhere! any leads, internet? //via IMDb.

5. this dress makes me want to get divorced so I can get married again. so dreamy... //Your Something New.

6. I really want to start a collection of bralets; I love their vintage feel, and they look sassy under sheer blouses. //from left; Anthropologie, Victoria's Secret, H&M.

7. the season of tartans is still a ways away, but it's official; I'm mad for plaid. //Modcloth & Yumi.

8. last but certainly not least... IT'S A KITTY IN A FLOWER CROWN!! BLERG! //via imgfave.

I'm the queen of nothing, I'm the king of the world

ahem. a song, for you.
(sung to the tune of My Favorite Things)

"now it is friday, the end of the week
I found things I like that you may wish too seek,
some stuff made me smile, some stuff made me sing,
here are a few of my favourite things!"

 1. I'm absolutely in love with this vintage cocktail set. gold trim, diamond patterns, an ice bucket; how debonair! //Dooley and Fritz Vintage.

2. F. Scott is really hitting home with me these days. //via Pinterest.

3. I've never been a huge fan of sandals; season-specific shoe choices aren't worth the money in Eastern Canada or Scotland, if you ask me. but even though NYC streets are not really a place I want to expose my bare feet, I've recently been coveting the sandals of the more courageous summer girl. maybe I'll get cute pairs like these for next year? //1. H&M, 2. Topshop, 3. Seychelles, 4. Topshop.

4. this royal blue summer dress is a stunner. //Modcloth.

5. if you're looking for ideas on what to add to your mid-summer reading list, the Man Booker Prize long list came out this week! it's always good for a suggestion (even though this year there are no Canadian works, boo), and I can personally vouch for the brilliance of Ali Smith. //The Man Booker Prize.

6. I recently discovered the delightful blog of Holly and was instantly smitten with her cute projects and demure style. I especially love this transparent clutch that she made herself- and thanks to her diy post, you can make it too! //Holly Dolly.

7. Modcloth has some dynamite home accessories lately; adorable retro decor for every room in the house. //clockwise fr. left; the goods life canister set, pleasurable planning wall calendar, collection of memories collage frame set, & revered residence wall mirror.

8. Seychelles Footwear is celebrating its 30th birthday with special edition styles, and I am dying over these new boots. the season for boots is still a ways away, but cute ankle boots work anytime of year! //Scoundrel.

9.  don't forget, tomorrow is National Dance Day! celebrate in your own way, or learn the official dance day routine and show off your moves at Lincoln Center (amongst other places). watch a video of the two routines (I'm so uncoordinated I can't do either of them) & get more info here.

10. even though I've been expanding my netflix horizons, I find myself always going back to old favourites. and I'm realizing that The Office is the standard by which I am judging rewatch-ability. the show is basically perfect in my eyes! I mean, you get subtle but brilliant moments of hilarity:

...heartfelt life lessons:

...and of course sex appeal:
never enough Office Love. //images via Pinterest.

everything is now

OH MY GOSH HOW IS IT THE WEEKEND AGAIN?!
summer, stop! slow down, please!
I feel like summertime is almost over and I haven't basked in its glory nearly enough. I need to eat more ice cream and watch the sunset. I need to spend more time sitting on grass. I haven't even gone swimming yet!
it's settled. I am now making it a personal priority to go to the beach once a week.

since apparently it's friday again (how does this keep happening? is this how time usually passes? really quickly and in the right order? that may be a paraphrase on a Doctor Who quote...) it's time to post my friday favourites. have fun checking them out and marvelling at the incredible shortness of life... that's what I'll be doing.

1. Keiko Lynn is always amazingly stylish, but this look of hers really knocked it out of the park for me. love the vibrant colours of the setting, the fantastic hat, and those perfect green sandals! //Carnival Colors.

2. loving this bedding; it's chicness meets just the right amount of whimsy. //Urban Outfitters.

3. denim shirts are a wardrobe staple, and unbelievably humid summers mean I should have one in every sleeve length. right? //1. American Apparel, 2. H&M, 3. American Apparel.

4. I'm seriously considering getting this exact hair style, colour and all. supposedly dying your hair makes it look & feel thicker, so bonus! //image via pinterest.

5. Zara is having a midsummer sale! this is what Shakespeare was thinking of when he wrote "Midsummer Night's Dream." //all Zara.

6. speaking of dreams... meet the dress I'll be wearing when I go to the Oscars as Chris Hemsworth's date. *swoon* over this absolute sartorial perfection, and Mr. Hemsworth's face, obviously. beauty is beauty, people. //Elie Saab is my hero.

7. I want to put these two prints in the spare room we've turned into my closet/dressing room. the coffee one because it's morning inspiration, the other one because it has words to live by. //My Retro Nest & Jen Oaks.

8. I've been craving statement necklaces lately; they really tie an outfit together, and are great for colour-blocking. //Modcloth, Noonday Collection, H&M.

9. ok, I haven't even seen this yet, but it's making the list because I'm so excited, you guys. hits theatres tonight! //Wish I Was Here.
