the most wonderful time of the year

you guys, it's ONE MONTH TILL CHRISTMAS!

I'm so excited I can't stand it.
this will be my first Christmas away from Newfoundland, ever. I know it's going to be hard being away from my friends and family- especially for the morning of- but I'm kind of looking forward to our very first Christmas in New York! there are so many things I want to do; see the Rockefeller tree lighting, go skating in Central Park, maybe even see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular! it's gonna be a merry New York Christmas.

I thought one month before the big day was good timing to post my Christmas list. it's a little late this year, and most people already have my present by now... but it's always fun to make a wish list! besides, I also have an expertly-curated Modcloth Christmas list, and they're having a ginormous sale starting tomorrow. so if you aren't getting me anything, you can at least score some sweet holiday swag for yourself.
(*cough*selfish*cough*)

1. a funny, comfy t-shirt. this one cracks me up. ♥ //Modcloth.
2. Urban Decay Vice Palette 3. it's got a whole column of reds! so cool. //Sephora.
3. purple velvet. now that winter's arrived I'm craving a wardrobe made entirely of velvet. purple is just so luxurious. //Modcloth.
4. a cropped blazer. if I can't have a cropped white tuxedo blazer, a plain white one will do. //Modcloth.
5. cookbooks. there are a couple that seem perfect for me (I also like One Pan, Two Plates) but the sriracha is at the top of my list. //Amazon.
6. a party skirt. nothing brightens up the holiday season like teal sequins! //H&M.
7. a red sweater. this one incorporates two wardrobe faves; red and lace. //H&M.
8. a vintage dress. like this one, or the many others on my Etsy wish list. //Hollie Point.
9. black lace-up boots. comfy & cute! and the perfect winter staple. //Modcloth.
10. Broadway tickets. I would love to see anything! Cabaret with Emma Stone is probably my most pined-for at the moment. but there is plethora of shows I am aching to see. a plethora, I tell you!

I said "Christmas" so much in this post. :)

my obsession

hey y'all! it's been a long time since I've shared with you some of my superficial fancies, so I thought I would put together some Friday favourites. how else will you know how I've been wasting time and what I've been ogling on the interweb? it's a service, really.

...yes, I'm aware it is Monday, but I'm always behind. you should be used to it by now!

1. I need some plant life in my home life; this hanging planter is just so pretty. //Barruntando.

2. I've recently discovered this fabulous lady's blog, and with it her equally fabulous Etsy creations. love this clear tote! //Mini Penny Vintage.

3. I'm so excited for all my favourite shows to pick up again- autumn; tis the season of new tv!- not least of all that final season of Parks & Rec. Guardians gave me my fill of Chris Pratt over the summer, but I've missed Andy Dwyer's philosophies on life. like these! //via Buzzfeed.

4. Urban Decay has a new vice palette out, and I kind of need it... all those amazing bright colours! zoinks! //Sephora.

5. I'm obsessed with getting a pair of white boots, preferably of the cowboy variety. these would be ideal for wearing with flowery dresses to transition them into cooler weather. //clockwise fr. top left: Time Bomb Vintage; Time Bomb Vintage (again); Jeffrey Campbell; Sam Edelman.

6. more Buzzfeed love; apparently no show better exemplifies my life than Arthur. and I won't pretend that doesn't make me extremely happy. //Buzzfeed.

7. I'm itchin' to get some new pretty up on my walls, and I'm especially fond of anything that shows love for Brooklyn. //Joe B Map Art.

8. I know this video was released ages ago, but I'm so obsessed. the song alone is amazeballs (be sure to check out the Sara Bareilles cover here!), but the video is even AMAZEBALLIER. yeah, that's right, I'm so pumped I just created a new superlative.

all for you

lately I've been re-discovering my passion for Etsy, and my near-daily browsing had lead to some serious wardrobe envy.

I have two qualms with vintage dress shopping; the first is that it has gotten unreasonably expensive. when I first started buying vintage, I remember most dresses were around $40-$60. I thought that was fair; pay about $50 for a regular, new dress, or $60 for a more unique one. now most vintage frocks cost closer to $100+. I get that they're kind of "in" now, and that they're like forty years old... but then, they're like forty years old.

anyway, the second issue I have is that most of the dresses are made for women of a much more svelte figure. the further you get from a 25-inch waist, the fewer options you have. whenever my eyes drift over an exquisite example of classic fashion design, I instantly prepare myself for heartache, since most likely it would only fit me as a sleeve alone.

but my loss is your gain! (well, technically my gain is your gain, if you get my meaning...)
because I've curated for you a dream closet of Etsy finds that will have you looking vintage fabulous through all seasons. I can't fit into most of these pictures of sartorial perfection, but maybe you can! (skinny bitches...)

....and if you aren't absolutely in love with that last dress yet, look at it up close!
now that's a Christmas dress if I e'er did see one.

so go. shop. enjoy your small waists and slender build. be the envy of all your friends.
oh, and if you buy one of these, let me know! and send me a pic.
not to be creepy or anything, just 'cause I think that would be fun. I've developed a sort of relationship with these unattainable dresses, and it would be nice to know they went to a good home.

♥

it's just raining, ain't no need to go outside

hello, lovelies, and a happy friday to you! it's a terrible rainy day here in Brooklyn, but that makes it the perfect time to catch up on my blogging, watch Parks & Rec in bulk, and snuggle with my cat.

here are this week's friday favourites!

1. this vintage dress is simply perfect. sunny florals, full skirt, cute little bow- I'm dying.

2. I've discovered a love of succulents! they're so pretty, you guys. and they seem hard to kill... I want to get a couple to nature-up the living room. pretty!

3. I think it's necessary for me to have a bike now that I live in Brooklyn. this one is a cheapie, but it's still so cute. // Walmart.

4. it's coming up on crop top season! I'm not one for showing off the tummy, but with a high-waisted skirt and preppy sandals, even I can enjoy these cute little numbers. // Modcloth.

5. I have a new blog crush! Olivia of What Olivia Did is so classy and beautiful that I just may envy her to death. I want to steal her closet of girly separates and elegant vintage dresses.

6. one month in the US and I still don't have a phone. blerg. but when I do get one, I want this adorable phone case to go with it! // Tasteful Tatters.

7. I've fallen back in love with Zara and all of its classic, chic clothes. I love how these pieces are fresh and flirty, but would still fit in on an Old Hollywood movie set. // Zara.

8. just can't get enough of The Mindy Project and her amazing, vibrant style! Mindy mixes bold patterns and bright colors in a way that's still classy. now I just have to wait in agony till the next season starts. // screenshots by moi.
(sorry about the status bar! screen shots are not my strong suit.)

my heart's desire

friday favourites time!
here's what my heart desires this week...

1. I really want to try charcoal skin products; they're supposed to be wicked good for deep cleaning & problem skin types. this gift set is all-natural and features other must-try items- not to mention the aesthetic appeal! //Herbivore Botanicals.

2. suffice to say I NEED this Whovian jewellery box... //Modcloth.

3. ...and something pretty to put in it. definitely down with this lovely lilac statement piece. //Belle Accessories.

4. ring ring ring ring, BANANAPHONEEEE. this. is. amazing. //Modcloth.

5. why yes, I am in need of a perfect red skirt. what a coincidence! //Urban Outfitters.

6. sweet & useful vintage canisters to spruce up what's sure to be a tiny kitchen. //86 Home.

7. I just surrendered several pairs of shoes to the "can't take them all" moving gods. I've already got my eye on some replacements... namely, the quintessential pair of saddle shoes & pretty pink spring heels. //Shoe the Bear, Ruche.

8. more adorable home decor, in cuddly form. I think my nesting instincts have kicked in before I even have a nest. //Three Bad Seeds.

9. ever since I saw a picture of Khloe Kardashian rocking a jumpsuit (pic below!)- yes, you read that correctly, "Khloe" & "rocking"- I've kinda loved the idea of a sleek, monochrome onesie. of course I could only find black in any semblance of a price range, but it'll do until I become a socialite. //1&2 Topshop, 3 Asos.

10. and finally... Firefly. because, Firefly. how can you not love Firefly? I need more Firefly.

love is all I have to give

february is the month of loooove. at least, that's what they tell me. in Newfoundland it's kind of the month of sporadic weather patterns and snow storms. but also looooove!

Valentine's day is coming up fast, and while I don't think it really counts as a "holiday," it's nice to have something break up the post-Christmas pre-summer death lull. I plan on dressing entirely in pink and red and doing the traditional cheesy Valentine's day things- watching romantic comedies, going out to dinner, eating only heart-shaped goodies. maybe buy Brandon some roses. he deserves them.

I made a little list of Valentine-themed items I'd be happy to have on this holiday. maybe it can serve as ideas for gifts to get your special lady, or just inspiration for what to wear on the day of looove!

1. you don't have to wear your heart on your sleeve; you can leave it right where it is and this awesome cardigan will show it off for you! //Modcloth.
2. ombre tights are the bomb-diggity. //X Silk.
3. Kei Jewellery has the most incredible necklaces that make the perfect dainty accessory for a pink-and-red vday. //Kei Jewellery.
4. nothing beats a red dress for Valentine's day. //Modcloth.
5. if you don't want to go overboard with the holiday theme, red accessories stand out against any outfit. and a red bag is always classic. //Modcloth.
6. the perfect tea set for two; it says "we ♥ each other." //Modcloth.
7. lilac is a refreshing Valentine colour and is wonderfully sweet on this handy-dandy camera bag! //Jo Totes.
8. no one says I love you like the Doctor; "I love you with both my hearts." //Somebody Loved.
9. heart shaped and ultra-feminine- you can wear black and still be festive in this beauty.
10. there's nothing more Valentine's day than hearts and jewellery. //Amarilo.
11. funny valentines are the best; "hey bitch, totes love you." //The Hipster Housewife.
12. anatomical hearts are edgier than the traditional shape. //Moon Raven Designs.
13. you still have to deal with the february weather. red quilted rain boots are fun and functional. //Modcloth.
14. there are all kinds of love. for example, that sort between a girl and her cheeseburger. //Modcloth.

just smile

lalala faves.
...that was the gibberish I typed to start off the body of this friday favourites post while I uploaded the photos. I think it seems like the perfect introduction, don't you?
so there you have it.

1. there's nothing more comforting and homey than a cool coffee mug. and what's cooler than an octopus and a little homicidal humour? // Modcloth & Style Dahlia.

2. since I have a little blond in my hair now, I love the idea of a fun colour at the ends. I've used Manic Panic temporary dye before, and I am really liking "voodoo blue." // Manic Panic.

3. I gave a friend earrings similar to this dandelion seed necklace before;
I love how whimsical and delicate it is! // Ruby Robin Boutique.

4. my mom keeps telling me I need a casual winter coat. who am I to argue? it's cold here! // all Asos.

5. I made these chipotle sloppy joes for dinner a couple nights ago, and they were soooo YUMMY. you can get the gist of the recipe here, but I kind of put my own twist on it.
you can find my recipe at the end of this post.

6. still kind of keeping my eyes peeled for potential wedding ring replacements.
this vintage opal one is stunning! // Estate Jewellery Shop.

7. I came across this beautiful horse drawing on Pinterest, but I can't find the original source. I think it's magical. I've always loved horses. a similar, original piece would make a lovely tattoo.

8. I love this "sweet" tee in a pretty pastel. // Modcloth.

9. there are always plenty of adorable dresses on my wish list. newest additions are this travel-themed, fun frock and a candy-striped, bow-adorned little number. // Modcloth & Ruche.

10. last but not least, here's my new favourite dog breed! the corgi-dalmatian mix. actually corgi-anything is pretty stinkin' adorbs. but what a cutie pie, amirite?? // Buzzfeed.

hope you found something to make you smile in my little list. I know I did!
happy weekend!
