the most wonderful time of the year

you guys, it's ONE MONTH TILL CHRISTMAS!

I'm so excited I can't stand it.
this will be my first Christmas away from Newfoundland, ever. I know it's going to be hard being away from my friends and family- especially for the morning of- but I'm kind of looking forward to our very first Christmas in New York! there are so many things I want to do; see the Rockefeller tree lighting, go skating in Central Park, maybe even see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular! it's gonna be a merry New York Christmas.

I thought one month before the big day was good timing to post my Christmas list. it's a little late this year, and most people already have my present by now... but it's always fun to make a wish list! besides, I also have an expertly-curated Modcloth Christmas list, and they're having a ginormous sale starting tomorrow. so if you aren't getting me anything, you can at least score some sweet holiday swag for yourself.

1. a funny, comfy t-shirt. this one cracks me up. ♥ //Modcloth.

3. purple velvet. now that winter's arrived I'm craving a wardrobe made entirely of velvet. purple is just so luxurious. //Modcloth.
4. a cropped blazer. if I can't have a cropped white tuxedo blazer, a plain white one will do. //Modcloth.
5. cookbooks. there are a couple that seem perfect for me (I also like One Pan, Two Plates) but the sriracha is at the top of my list. //Amazon. 
6. a party skirt. nothing brightens up the holiday season like teal sequins! //H&M.
7. a red sweater. this one incorporates two wardrobe faves; red and lace. //H&M.
8. a vintage dress. like this one, or the many others on my Etsy wish list. //Hollie Point.
9. black lace-up boots. comfy & cute! and the perfect winter staple. //Modcloth.
10. Broadway tickets. I would love to see anything! Cabaret with Emma Stone is probably my most pined-for at the moment. but there is plethora of shows I am aching to see. a plethora, I tell you!

you've lost that loving feeling

I'm sure every self-proclaimed clotheshorse has those moments where she looks into her closet and thinks she has nothing to wear. well, I had several such moments this week- admittedly due in part to bad moods and general icky-ness- when I wondered how I ended up with so many completely useless and unwearable things. of course those moments were just in passing crankiness or frustration, but it is about the point in the season when I start wanting a little shift in my wardrobe; from sundresses to sweater dresses, from ballerinas to booties, from daisy yellow to mustard yellow. sometimes I spend so much time trying to transition last season's pieces that I forget to enjoy those meant for the new season!

in the spirit of inspiration and, well...greed, I've taken it upon myself to make a little Fall/Winter wardrobe wish list!

well, it's more like a rather large wish list than a little one, but variety is the spice of life, after all. 

what do you feel is lacking in your sartorial life this autumn?

1, 3, 4, 8, 14, & 17. anything plaid! dresses, shirts, skirts, whatever. plaid in deep, rich colours makes the perfect fall and winter wardrobe. //in order: Well I'll Be Darling dress, Patterned Cotton shirt, Luck Be a Lady dress in green plaid, Day Trip Delight dress in Sunset, Secret Lake vintage dress, Plaid Flannel shirt.

7 & 15. neutral-yet-pretty skirts. a tulle skirt is fun and playful, but in navy it's not too kitschy. and this cocoa-powder midi skirt is a great basic. //Custom by Misdress, Crinkled Midi skirt.

all I have to do is dream

nothing can drag down a pleasant morning like going to the closet and feeling like you have nothing to wear. that's right, even those of us with bloated closets suffer from outfit blues from time to time! sometimes I can't get more that two items to go together, then I just get frustrated and throw on a dress. which, you know, is really not much of a problem.

aaanyway, a recent morning of indecision inspired me to make a practical list of things that are missing from my wardrobe, and I turned that into an August wish list! they are pieces that mix well with all the separates I currently own, and are also stand-alone chic. at least, I think so.

1. every summer wardrobe needs a breezy denim shirt. //Topshop. (on sale!)
2. ok, I have to admit I already have a black summer hat, but I've been thinking that I need one for the fall. I love this one's embroidered rim. //Modcloth.

3. this necklace is a tiny map of the world! //Modcloth.

4. a colourful floral crown is a must-have accessory. //Flash Floozy.

5. I love a neutral top that's still pretty and feminine. //H&M.

6. a cute pair of cognac flats go with pretty much anything... //H&M.

8. harem pants just look so comfy to me! and light jersey material makes them comfy in warm weather. //H&M.

10. my fondness for crop tops is no secret. I love the big flouncy ruffles on this one; they give it a flamenco- dancer look. //Zara.

13. white shoes are lovely in the summer; they look so crisp and fresh. //Aldo.

15. a pretty yellow top to pair with denim shorts, or wear under a sweater in colder months. //H&M.

sometimes, time does this thing where it feels like it isn't moving at all. and then BAM. a year's gone by. what's the deal, time? trying to enjoy my life, here...

my birthday is exactly two weeks from today. it's hard to believe that any birthday celebrations could top last year's, but I think if anything can compete it's New York City. 

as usual my birthday wish list is super long, since moving to a new country and not having a job kind of restricts one's shopping habits... but it's more of a "collage of visual ideas" than a concrete list. I'm not super materialistic, I swear. 

1. a new bag. all of my current handbags are black or furry, which doesn't really work for summer. I want candy hues and girly details! love chain link straps & roomy hobo bags. // all from Modcloth.

I probably won't actually get something from my list, but it's fun to make one anyways. birthdays are great! I'm just excited to have a whole day doing whatever I want! so far my ideas are; going out for brunch, shopping in SoHo (there's a tour!), a visit to Central Park, a Broadway show, then fancy dinner in Manhattan. I think that day would probably beat out presents.

8. I have a grey fascinator similar to this style, and I am great at finding excuses to wear it. it jazzes up pretty much any dress and makes it a "special" outfit! a purple one is a definite must. //Modcloth.

9. I'm really loving the bohemian look lately. I instantly fell for this classic top the moment I saw it; it  looks like a vintage find from the 70s. pair it with denim shorts and a floral crown and voila! hippie chic. :) //Ruche.

a far off place

the weather here lately has not been cooperative for taking outfit photos, or any outdoor excursions at all for that matter. we've had three snowstorms this week, and it looks like they'll just keep on coming. in lieu of real-life outfit posts, I thought I'd share a few looks inspired by better weather and more interesting days.

it's no secret that I've got a serious and constant case of wanderlust. couple that with my compulsive shopping addiction, and planning a vacation wardrobe becomes the perfect down-time activity! I put together a list of a few far-off places I'm longing to see, and the fantasy outfits to accompany them. it's a way to indulge both my habits without spending any money... and hopefully giving you lovely readers some slightly interesting content in the meantime.

I've always loved the Olympics, and it kinda killed me when they were in Canada and I couldn't go; Vancouver is far far away, guys! so me and my travel buddy Caitlin made a pact to save up and go to the summer Olympics in Rio in 2014. I'm so excited to finally see the games, and South America too!

1. Rio is known for funky fashion and showing some skin; an 80s-inspired dress goes with everything. // Modcloth.

Brandon and I were headed to Stockholm a couple summers ago but our plans changed quickly. ever since I've really wanted to plan another trip there. it sounds so hip and trendy, but still steeped in fascinating history. apparently there are hot air balloon rides and amazing baked goods!
