storm in a teacup

so "snowmageddon" was kind of a bust, huh?

I'm not sure how you native New Yorkers felt about blizzard 2015, but I was kind of underwhelmed.
that being said, the snow day was very appreciated, and it's kind of nice to have a little winter wonder around here. if it's gonna be cold, there might as well be snow!

you're never too old for a little frolic in the snow.

I got a new coat for Christmas from my mom- she always gives me the best coats! unfortunately it was a little too big... but when I exchanged it Modcloth had a huge sale on so I got this coat in two colours! and I love them both. I'm always nervous ordering things with sleeves online (do I just have freakishly disproportionate arms?) but this coat is so comfy and chic and perfect for New York City winters. meaning not blizzard-y or snowpocalyptic.
at all.
come on, guys.

happy snow day!
and now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

dig my toes into the sand

I finally got to make another trip to the beach this weekend! as someone who's trying to make the most out of what little summer we have left, I haven't been to the beach nearly enough. which is a shame, because I really do feel like the ocean makes everything better. like I said to Brandon as we walked to get the train home, "my butt is full of sand and my heart is full of joy!"

dress- Monsoon (old) // hat + sunglasses- thrifted // backpack- handmade in Greece

this dress has been demoted from actual dress status to beach cover-up, on account of its revealing nature. it used to fit me perfectly, but it's kind of too small now, making it a little too scandalous to wear out and about (it keeps flying open completely and the neckline is crazy low). but I just can't bear to part with it. it's one of the prettiest things I've ever owned! so now it will be a beach accessory. after all, it doesn't matter if people at the beach see my swim suit. that's the benefit of wrap dresses; you can find a way to make it work!

my hat has seen better days as well; it was stored in a suitcase for several months and doesn't really travel well. it got all squished up and I can't get it back into shape! sometimes it looks like a pink bucket on my head (and that is one trend from the 90s that I do not think I will be reviving). this outfit has seen better days... but there are some wardrobe pieces you just can't let go.

hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

partridge berry, labrador tea

I'm trying to re-embrace winter.
I know most of you think "ooh, but spring is just around the corner!" um, NO. it's winter, and it may be winter forever. that is the attitude one must take in Canada.
so I'm trying to get back to my "winter is alright, snow is beautiful" attitude, instead of being frustrated with the weather and the layers and whatnot.

so I went to a pretty gazebo in the woods and wore a pretty dress and a new hat and it went great.

to be fair, it was an unusually warm day for winter, so it was pretty easy to be lulled into a false sense of contentment. I was cozy enough to jaunt around in my sleeveless dress. Brandon picked out this dress for me for Christmas and it's just wonderful! it's become one of my favourites, and I always get complimented on it. the contrasting collar and open back make it extra retro-special. it's one of those dresses that fits perfectly into what I want my style to be.

I topped the look off, appropriately, with my new Labrador hat. a lot of my extended family lives in the Labrador portion of the province, and one of my aunts had this made for me at the request of my mom. she knows I love cutesy homemade accessories! this one looks like the Labrador flag, which just happens to have a smashing colour combo.

after our little forest excursion, Brando and I made quesedillas, went to the gym, and watched some hockey. it all felt very productive.
see, winter's not so bad after all.

stay strong, fellow Canucks!

maybe we don't wanna be found

I feel like such a bad blogger lately. I can't come up with any new ideas, it seems I never get around to outfit photos, and when I do they don't turn out the way I want.

I want to blame the bad weather and the living out of a suitcase and the poor photo conditions, but really it's a lack of inspiration. I'm not feeling it. I don't really want to be in front of a camera, I don't really want to dress up. I keep reading other blogs where people look amazing and have beautiful photos and interesting things to say, and I feel kind of lost.
not in a sad way! just in a kind of bewildered rut.

so I guess that is my convoluted way of introducing my latest outfit post.
if I've lowered your expectations at all it can only serve me well.

it hasn't helped matters that my hair has been... kind of a little bitch lately. why does winter hate hair? DON'T I HAVE ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH, WINTER? curse you.

thank goodness for adorable hats.

autumn leaves have got you thinking

so I took a little blog break last week... it wasn't really a decision so much as a timely convenience. I went into St. John's for a visit because I was really missing my friends *cough*andmylife*cough.* it was lazy and relaxing and cold and snowy, nothing that overly screamed "blog post." I also happen to be in the midst of one of the world's worst skin breakout, so I wasn't feeling camera-worthy.

and here we are! I'm late wishing you all a Happy Love Day, but I hope it was as pleasant as mine. Brando and I went out for a nice dinner and drank wine and then had ice cream sandwiches at home. it doesn't get much better than that, am I right?

anywho, I do have these photos from way back in November that I didn't get around to sharing. it's pretty much the exact outfit I wore last weekend... twice. so I think it works out pretty well.

I much prefer an adorable dress to a snowsuit. especially one with all of the delicious things on it! I am being completely serious when I tell you that I labelled these photos "om nom" on my computer. cheeseburgers, ice cream sundaes, bacon- what's not to love about this funky print??

I've been wearing this dress about once a week since I got it, so I'm surprised it took this long to make it to the blog.

this post is making me miss two things; fall, and my purple lipstick. I'll have to dig through my box of cosmetic mess to find it.
the lipstick, not the fall. although it would be pretty amazing to be able to take out the seasons at will. I like winter as much as anyone, but I sure could go for a day in the sun.
I'm sure most people feel that way in february. spring will be here before we know it! fingers crossed.

cold, cold heart

February, the year 2014, day four.
still cold. too cold to leave home.
yet I venture forth into frozen winter, for naught but vanity.
the natives consider me mad.
(but all the best people are...)

coat- kenzie // dress- gift // cardigan- aeropostale // tights- american apparel // hat- bentley // mittens- borrowed // boots- modcloth

I feel like I am channelling the Mad Hatter a little here, both for my outrageously bright headwear and the craziness of thinking that trudging through ice and snow is a good idea.
I'm pretty sure the snow crust cut my legs, guys.
I really need to dig out some taller boots and- dare I say it?- a couple pairs of jeans if I want to make it through winter photo shoots comfortably and with all of my digits.
I know, I know, I'm such a whiner. at least this hat warms my head and my heart!

maybe I just need to incorporate more coats into my wardrobe. that would make winter outfits so much easier! and variety is the spice of life, after all.

hope you're all keeping warm.
