the season to be jolly

with all the franticness of the Christmas season I didn't really get to do all the holiday things I wanted. but Brando and I did take a nice stroll around Central Park! even though there was no snow it still felt like Christmas...especially when we walked down Fifth Avenue later and looked at all the fancy window displays; Bergdorf's certainly knows how to make a gal swoon.

shirt- Urban Outfitters // skirt- Modcloth // sparkly belt- Smart Set // scarf- American Apparel // coat- Suzy Shier (old!) // boots- Aldo

not only was there no snow, but it really wasn't all that cold either. I had no qualms shedding my coat to snap a few pics of my festive-ish outfit.
it's not bright red or trimmed in velvet or anything, but I like the subtle wintery feel. over the holidays I tend to gravitate towards jewel tones and demure pieces; peter pan collars, sparkly accessories, airy fabrics mixed with cozy textures. that kind of thing. and even though Christmas day is past I think these little points really brighten a winter wardrobe.
and it also really helps to have the perfect forest green midi...

Brando and I are very happy with our Brooklyn holidays so far! we've been enjoying our time off, spending lots of time with friends and indulging our vices- if you can't pig out on fried food and whiskey at Christmastime, then when can you?- and relaxing.

I'm a relaxing pro right now. my bed and I are becoming reacquainted, and my cat now thinks I'm a stay-at-home mom. we're all very copacetic.
yeah, I busted that one out.

2014, going out with a bang!

the hap-happiest season of all

it's that time of year again!
the most wonderful time, obviously, but also probably the busiest time. I believe the term "hustle and bustle" has been thrown about.

I've been giving myself a break on the whole "MUST BLOG SO MUCH" attitude based on the fact that time is basically a vacuum in December and I've been too tired to function. when I'm not passing out on my amazing new Ikea rug (surrounded by tangled ribbon and rolls of wrapping paper), I'm off trying to soak up all the Christmasy goodness the Big Apple has to offer.

Christmasy goodness exhibit A: the Rockefeller Christmas tree.

isn't it the most beautifulest thing you ever sawed?!
I keep expecting Kevin's mom to show up and hug me. why she would hug me, when I am not Kevin, I'm not sure, but the holiday brain works in mysterious ways.

I can't believe we are in the single digits! only nine days to Christmas, b'ys. it's gettin' hella merry and bright up in here.

come and stay a while...

it's no secret that since moving to the Big Apple Brando and I have been running a sort of cultural exchange program; meaning, basically, that we have frequent visitors from far and wide. and I love it!  not only does it bring temporary roommates to hang out with, but it gives me an excuse to go out and explore this big beautiful city some more.

in August we were lucky enough to have two sets of visitors and tons of great weather, so I spent a lot of time galavanting around NYC and eating pizza. (the pizza is a big tourist attraction.) here are some pictures from our recent friend-time adventures...

I'll never get sick of visiting Central Park, or walking the Brooklyn Bridge. or of the pizza, of course.
more friends are coming in just two days, and I can't wait!

so if you're looking to come to New York at some point... hit me up. take advantage. we'll eat food and play bingo. you'll love it.

a kiss with a fist

so I guess it's been a while! it's been a bit of a weird week. I'm starting to see a pattern emerge in these summer days; the first half of the week is fun and busy and brimming with optimism. then thursday and friday kind of punch me in the face. but what's life without a roller coaster of emotions that make you consider therapy, amirite??

early this week- back in the good ol' days, ya might say- Brando and I spent the afternoon in Central Park. I'd never seen the Bathesda Fountain or Bow Bridge, and since I'm an Enchanted mega-fan that's kind of ridiculous. a nice park lady directed us to the scenic route and I strolled (ahem, skipped) around humming "That's How You Know" and swinging my arms dramatically.

so it turns out Central Park is pretty nice. who knew?
ONLY EVERYBODY, SARAH.
geez, okay.

hope you're all having a splendid weekend! and I hope the only way you are punched in the face is with awesomeness. it's the only enjoyable punch.
well, that and fruit punch. hawaiian punch. Christmas punch where you mix fruit juice and ginger ale and put frozen berries in it. those are enjoyable punches too.

I wish upon you these punches along with the punch of awesomeness!

we'll take this city

in the far, far reaches of my memories... back in the oh-so-distant month of June... I had the pleasure of spending my second-favourite time of year with one of my dearest friends.

the time of course was my birthday (second favourite to Christmastime!), and as usual it was pretty much the same time as hers. her being the fantastically beautiful, kind-hearted, high-sea sailing Emily.

we celebrated our 27th birthdays exploring the Big Apple together. I already shared pictures from my big day with you, and now I'd like to proudly present a few from the rest of Em's visit. that will pretty much catch me up on this blog, adventure-wise. uh, at least for the summer...

emme_3
we sassed it up with Lady Liberty at the Brooklyn Flea...

emme_1
and stopped by The Pink Teacup for brunch, and to get out of the rain.

emme_2
I had chicken and waffles! yummm.

emme_4
later we got to do the most wonderful thing in the whole entire world... see Wicked! Em's first time, my fifth. gets better every time. ♥

emme_7
can you believe it, she still couldn't get a cab...

emme_6
Brando joined us for a day out on the town and delicious, delicious burritos at Blockheads. he likes to make faces. he's kind of a blockhead, too.

emme_5
just two pals, bein' cool in New York City.

emme_11
we paid a nighttime visit to the Brooklyn Bridge, to enjoy the view and do a little spontaneous yoga. like you would.

emme_9
she's a beauty.

emme_10
not a bad view.

emme_8
I could squish that adorable face. you don't look a day over 21.

emme_12
we spent a hot afternoon in Central Park before heading downtown for more material pursuits... mainly donuts and shopping.

emme_13
this was my first visit to Chelsea Market, and I'm kind of in love. it's beautiful and full of yummy food, and I could spend all day in the flea market. I've been back a few times since then!

emme_14
after the market it was pretty much a hop, skip, and a jump (or a little green elevator) to the High Line. I did not act my age and cooled my feet in the water like a toddler. the only way to live.

emme_15
I know this is just a picture of local beer, but I love it. Emily took it at this amazing little Thai place we discovered because we were too lazy to walk any further away from the subway for dinner. it was a splendid evening, and also I like the lighting. so there!
