burning down bridges

hey there sports fans!
how about that team and their sports game?

I kid, I kid, I watched the Superbowl. it wasn't the most exciting game of football I've ever seen, but you know. it's an event. I was rooting for the Seahawks, and they won! you're welcome, Frasier.

Brando and I went out of town to visit some friends of ours and watch the game. it was nice to get away for just a night and gorge on pizza and wings and beer. a good ol' fashioned Superbowl night.

plus, they live in Port Blandford, which is a perfect little town for a photo op!

I kept my word and planned a warm wardrobe for outdoors, but of course I ended up not needing it. it was so mild! I didn't need any mittens or a hat, my new puffy jacket was good enough.

Brandon got a similar jacket in blue (which you can check out further down this post!) and I felt like we were a ski lodge couple from the 70s. do puffy bomber jackets remind you of stuff like that? I love those cute little ski bunny outfits with the pink jackets and earmuffs and big white ski boots. it makes me want to take a ski trip, but I know I'd prefer sipping hot chocolate and marshmallows by a fire to falling down a giant snow bank...

before we move on, I'd like to note two things: one, how awesome my gold nail polish is; and two, how great bridges are for taking pictures.

wandering 'round my hometown

this weekend Brando and I made a trip back to good ol' St. John's to hang out with our friends and get tattooed... well, ok, only I got tattooed! I'm excited to share it with you guys when it's all healed up and stuff. eek!

while we were in town I suggested- more like insisted- we venture out to Fort Amherst, because I'd never been there! as someone who's lived in Newfoundland, St. John's in particular, for so long, that was kinda embarrassing, so I thought we should go before we moved away again.

Fort Amherst is kinda like Signal Hill, except it's on the other side of St. John's harbour; it's an old station for canons and defence that was used during the wars. now it's mostly a tourist attraction for it's great views and pretty hiking in the summer.

so while I finish editing the gazillion Christmas photos I took this year, have a peek at Newfoundland winter from a perspective I experienced for the first time...

this is the view of the Battery from the Fort side of the Narrows. the Battery is a small neighbourhood on the side of Signal Hill that is like a little fishing village within the city. it's also one of the most photographed parts of St. John's!

a change will do you good

I know that once again I have taken a massive blogging hiatus, but I swear I'll be better! it's a whole new year and the perfect time for a whole new start.

2013 flew by far too fast. it sounds cliche, but it really does seem like just yesterday I was writing this post for 2012. the big difference is that I was glad and relieved to see the end of 2012, while this past year has been filled with good things and happy memories. I'm so thankful and happy about the turnaround!

I really can't believe that 2013 has come and gone, but when I stop to think about it, it was a pretty great year.

I moved back to my favourite city into a great apartment. I spent tons of time with my very best friends, and I'm ecstatic that we were all together for another year. we celebrated graduations, PhDs, new jobs, and weddings. we went whale watching at Cape Spear, danced to our favourite local bands, drank champagne in the freezing cold on Signal Hill, and played a million board games that turned into mini-parties. I threw the best birthday kegger ever (my opinion, haha) with one of my dearest friends. basically I had a year enjoying the crap outta St. John's town.

Brando and I got the sweetest kitty in the world! she is so loving and cuddly and she brightens my day, every day. it might sound silly but she has made this year so much cheerier just by being my furry little friend.

I went on my first road trip across North America with my best friend and had the time of my life. six provinces and ten states of museums, sightseeing, beer, laughter, hotel swimming pools, humidity, and finding everything funny. I satiated my wanderlust for a short time, but mostly just got bitten by the road trip bug, and now I want to spend my life driving around Canada and the US.

I got a job at one of my favourite downtown restaurants, and I enjoyed it completely. I've never had a job that I liked showing up for every day, so it was nice to know that it was possible! I also made some wonderful new friends there.

best of all, things really started to look up for Brando and I. for the first time since we've been together, both of us had paying jobs (one of us was always in school) and could actually afford things like paying our own phone bill! we started to really enjoy just hanging out again. we became a codependent threesome with netflix. we started going to the gym together. Brandon passed his physiotherapy license exam and is now a registered physical therapist in the US of A. and the cherry on top: he has a job waiting for him in New York City! and that's how we are going to start the new year- with a move to the city I've dreamed of living in since I was a kid.

in conclusion of this rather self-indulgent, reflective rambling, 2013 brought welcome and happy changes. 2014 is looking even more promising! new adventures in a new city and a whole new chapter in our life together.

with a circus mind

things have been a little quiet around this blog lately.
everyone's been busy doing their own thing, and Brando's got an 8-5 gig now that he's doing his last work placement, so I don't have a photographer around... I also don't have a tripod anymore, nor a camera remote, so taking outfit photos is kind of deals off for now.

I spent today shuffling around the kitchen cooking up a scoff while wearing a dress, a fisherman sweater, and wool socks. I have never been more of a Newfie.

in lieu of regular style-y content, I thought I'd share a few photos from the past week or so. like I said, things have been busy, which also means eventful. besides, autumn is basically over- far too quickly, as usual- and I'm sad to see it go.
